Workshop #1

Improving your Service
Organisation

Where, when

Start: 25.10.2013 09:00 (Friday)
Duration: 8 hours
Place: LITEXPO, Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius

Who

Lecturers: Pieter Buwalda, Gijs Andrea
Audience: Hospital staff, management or professionals
Why attend?

Most healthcare organizations, like hospitals, suffer of a tremendous workload, causing stress with nurses and doctors and usually a delay in treatment, surgery and discharge of patients. This often translates into full wards and operating theatres, long waiting times before a treatment can take place and in many cases patients being treated on the wrong ward. By implementing modern management principles in healthcare organisations, it turns out to be possible to reduce waiting times dramatically, to increase the amount of patients being treated and at the same time reduce the workload of professionals. Participants will acquire knowledge on how to improve both throughput and quality of care profoundly in a sustainable way, without increasing work on the already stressed professionals.

Workshop #4

How to Focus and Accelerate Performance Improvement: An Integrated Approach

Where, when

Start: 25.10.2013 09:00 (Friday)
Duration: 4 hours
Place: LITEXPO, Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius

Who

Lecturer: Dr. Bahadir Inozu
Audience: Public sector executives, managers, civil servants
Why attend?

In the public sector, process improvement goals are usually focused on decreasing cycle time and improving service quality as well as achieving more with reduced budgets. Already poorly defined processes suffer from complexities introduced by defects, poor information flow, and excessive handoffs – all major causes of long cycle times. When Lean Six Sigma is Integrated with Constraints Management, a new and very powerful improvement methodology is realized. Constraints Management provides the missing element of where to focus improvements which is critical to maximizing throughput of the goal units produced by organization.

In this workshop, first focusing tools of Constraints Management, such as the Goal Tree and Current Reality Tree will be introduced with hands on exercises. Then how to select the right tool for the right problems will be shown. Finally, strategies and tactics to accelerate performance improvement projects will be illustrated with class room simulations. Participants are encouraged to bring a performance improvement goal description with them to the workshop.

Fast Government: Using the power of speed to increase your capacity to do more good

Where, when

Start: 25.10.2013 09:00 (Friday)
Duration: 8 hours
Place: LITEXPO, Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius

Who

Lecturers: Ken Miller, Dr. Alan Barnard
Audience: Public sector executives, managers, civil servants
Why attend?

Government agencies from around the world are under enormous pressure to provide better, faster and cheaper services to all citizens and deal with frequently growing backlogs.

Rising costs, inefficiencies, slashed budgets, poor moral, failed IT projects and outdated systems and infrastructure are all common causes blamed for the challenge agencies are facing in doing more with less. So, how can agencies overcome these challenges? By recognizing that all these challenges are simply symptoms of one problem: capacity. Simply, government agencies do not have the capacity to do everything it needs to do.

This workshop will introduce attendees to an innovative and tested way to solve the capacity problem in a way that can achieve better, faster and cheaper at the same time. The key is not to waste agencies’ limited resources on dealing with the symptoms or to ask for more resources or budget, but rather focusing finding simple ways to improve the speed of processes and decision-making. Specifically, attendees will learn the proven strategies and tactics and see examples of how public sector processes and decision-making can be made at least 80% faster.

Getting real results in the public sector: implementing the Success Framework

Where, when

Start: 25.10.2013 09:00 (Friday)
Duration: 6 hours
Place: LITEXPO, Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius

Who

Lecturers: Kristen Cox, Greg Gardner

Why attend?

Any organisation can achieve amazing progress if it sets a clear goal and finds measurements that will drive progress toward that goal-in a feedback loop. But due to organisational complexity most public organisations struggle with implementing effective measurement system. It is much more difficult to improve the organisation without ability to effectively measure it’s progress. You should have heard this statement: “You can’t improve what you can’t measure”.

The workshop will enable the participants to get ready to implement the most effective goals&measurements system in their organisation. Every organisation has two choices for measurements – complexity or simplicity. The frame of reference that will be released in the workshop has been implemented in many agencies across Utah State. The workshop will disclose how operations and services of public sector organisations can be significantly improved by implementing effective measurement system (based on simplicity) and every day work making progress toward your organisation goal.
